Overview
Petrogate is working with a leading renewable energy developer and EPC to hire a highly skilled Electrical Engineer with BESS expertise for utility-scale energy storage projects across Texas and the wider U.S. market. This role offers a chance to play a critical part in the design, grid integration, and commissioning of high-impact battery projects accelerating the energy transition.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and review electrical design packages for utility-scale BESS projects including AC/DC schematics, protection coordination, and grounding systems.
Support the specification and integration of PCS, transformers, switchgear, EMS, and SCADA components.
Ensure designs meet ERCOT interconnection standards, NEC/IEEE codes, and client-specific requirements.
Provide technical oversight during equipment procurement, FATs, installation, and commissioning.
Coordinate with internal project teams, OEMs, and utilities for grid-tied infrastructure.
Conduct and review power system studies (short circuit, arc flash, load flow) using tools like ETAP, DigSilent, SKM, or similar.
Contribute to the development of commissioning procedures and participate in field testing when required.
Maintain documentation, QA/QC records, and ensure compliance with NESC, NFPA 70E, and applicable codes.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (EIT or PE license preferred).
5+ years of electrical engineering experience, with 2+ years specific to BESS or renewable energy infrastructure.
Deep understanding of lithium-ion BESS architecture, grid interconnection, and control systems.
Hands-on experience with BESS component sizing, inverter behavior, grounding design, and system modeling.
Familiar with utility and ISO requirements in Texas (e.g., ERCOT, Oncor, CenterPoint).
Strong communication and project coordination skills in cross-functional teams.
