Job Title: Lead Instrumentation Design Specialist – FEED & Detailed Engineering
Position Overview:
We are seeking a Principal Instrument Designer for a long-term assignment in Oman, supporting a global engineering leader in delivering high-impact FEED and Detailed Design projects across oil, gas, and emerging energy sectors. This role requires a seasoned professional to lead instrumentation design execution, ensuring technical precision, compliance with client standards, and seamless integration into multidisciplinary project teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Design Leadership: Oversee the creation of detailed instrumentation drawings, plans, and layouts from concept through to deliverables, adhering to client specifications, international codes (e.g., IEC, ANSI), and project requirements.
Technical Execution: Translate P&IDs, equipment specs, and engineering data into precise CAD/D-based designs, bills of materials, and construction-ready documentation.
Project Coordination: Act as a design authority on complex assignments, managing workflows, schedules, and resource allocation while mentoring junior designers.
Quality Assurance: Review and approve deliverables for technical accuracy, ensuring alignment with client expectations and industry best practices.
Cost Optimization: Identify cost-effective design solutions, contribute to bid evaluations, and prepare estimates for materials, labor, and timelines.
Client & Site Collaboration: Conduct site surveys, liaise with engineers and contractors to resolve design challenges, and support FAT/construction phases.
Innovation: Drive continuous improvement by integrating lessons learned and emerging technologies into design processes.
Qualifications:
Education: ISCED Level 5 (or equivalent) in Instrumentation, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
Experience: 15-20 years in upstream oil & gas design, with proven expertise in FEED, Detailed Design, and EPC project phases.
Technical Skills:
Mastery of CAD/D software (e.g., AutoCAD, SP3D, E3D).
Proficiency in interpreting P&IDs, line lists, and piping/material specs.
Strong grasp of DCS, ESD, and SCADA systems in brownfield/offshore environments.
Soft Skills:
Ability to translate abstract concepts into actionable design plans.
Collaborative mindset for cross-functional teamwork in multicultural settings.
Rigorous attention to detail with a focus on safety and compliance.
