Position Overview
Our client, a leading renewable energy company, is seeking a Senior Project Developer to manage the full project development cycle for wind and energy storage (BESS) projects. This role focuses on permitting, stakeholder engagement, risk mitigation, and ensuring financial close. The ideal candidate will bring deep industry knowledge, project management expertise, and strong regulatory understanding to deliver high-quality, bankable projects.
Key Responsibilities
Project Origination & Acquisition
Support the maturation of opportunities, defining project strategies, budgets, and schedules.
Conduct risk assessments and feasibility studies, refining partnership strategies and identifying opportunities.
Coordinate due diligence activities for project acquisitions, making recommendations to senior management.
Project Development & Execution
Develop and manage project development plans, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with HSE and quality standards.
Define schedules, track project risks, and implement mitigation strategies.
Lead site control activities, including land lease agreements and technical due diligence.
Engage with regulatory bodies, local authorities, landowners, utilities, and grid operators to secure permits and grid connection.
Support financial close activities in collaboration with Finance and Business Development teams.
Ensure alignment between offtake agreements, permitting, procurement, and financing.
Manage interfaces with engineering, contractors, and execution teams for technical decision-making and contract negotiations.
Permitting & Regulatory Compliance
Lead the permitting process, ensuring timely submission and compliance with local regulations and planning requirements.
Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders (engineers, consultants, and government officials) for permit applications.
Engage with regulatory agencies to secure approvals and address concerns.
Ensure compliance with permit conditions during the construction phase.
Tender & Contracting Strategy
Define contracting strategy in collaboration with technical and procurement teams.
Manage tender workstreams, ensuring technical feasibility and project optimization.
Oversee internal alignment across legal, HSE, and financial teams for successful tender submissions.
Strategic & Industry Engagement
Stay informed on renewable energy policies, regulations, and industry trends.
Contribute to budget planning and financial forecasting.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential Requirements:
Master’s or Engineering Degree in a relevant field.
15+ years of experience in renewable energy (Wind/BESS), including leading financial close processes.
Strong knowledge of local regulatory frameworks, permitting, and energy markets.
Proven experience in stakeholder engagement, including regulatory bodies, landowners, and utilities.
Expertise in technical, commercial, and financial aspects of renewable energy projects.
Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
